OKLAHOMA CITY – House Majority Leader Mike Sanders (R-Kingfisher) recently received a Legislative Appreciation Award from the Oklahoma Cattlemen’s Association (OCA) in recognition of his efforts to go above and beyond in working with the OCA to accomplish its mission of advancing and protecting the Oklahoma beef cattle industry.
The award was presented Saturday, July 20, at the OCA’s annual convention and trade show in Norman.
“Fighting for our state’s cattle industry has always been a priority for me as well as fighting for the individual property rights of our farmers and ranchers,” Sanders said. “I’m so blessed and honored to receive this award from this prestigious association that represents so many involved in our state’s cattle industry.”
OCA Executive Vice President Michael Kelsey praised Sanders’ work.
“Representative Sanders is a great friend of the Oklahoma cattle industry and the men and women who raise beef,” Kelsey said. “He knows the daily struggles that cattle farmers and ranchers face and respects that we are the true stewards of the land with the primary goal to leave the resources to our children so they can continue raising great tasting and healthy beef. As a leader in the House, Representative Sanders has the opportunity to be involved in many of the bills important to Oklahoma cattle men and women. He is a champion of private property rights and fights hard to make sure the role of government on Oklahoma farms and ranchers is proper and not burdensome.”
Sanders is a native of Kingfisher, serving House District 59, which takes in Blaine, Canadian, Dewey, Kingfisher and Woodward counties. He was first elected to the Oklahoma House of Representatives in 2008 and has had only one opponent in his five re-election campaigns. He serves on the House Agriculture and Rural Development Committee as well as the Appropriations and Budget, Energy and Natural Resources Committees and is chair of the House Utilities Committee. He also has the honor of serving on the speaker’s leadership team as Majority Leader.
